Travel aboard the Northern Belle, a reflection of the affluent 'Belle' trains of the 1930's.

Travelling on the Orient Express is a unique experience and one that everybody should try at least once. Our staff at Connoisseur are experienced in selling the Orient Express over many years and been onboard so can give you first hand knowledge. 

Day trips are a good place to start and the British Pullman (steam) operates Midlands and South of England while the Northern Bell (non steam) operates North and Scotland routes.

You can choose from a variety of day itineraries from a short round trip for afternoon tea which gives you the chance to savour the experience of being onboard or a longer day trip to a particular destination. If you choose a day trip you can expect to be met at the platform by your steward and shown onboard - you'll then enjoy a glass of champagne and a brunch consisting of several courses to keep you sustained before you reach your destination.

Once you have arrived you will either be coached a short distance or alight and spend several hours in your chosen destination before re-boarding and enjoying a sumptuous dinner during your return journey, which includes half a bottle of wine each and champagne and canapes.You are encouraged to dress smartly as the trip for many is a special treat but the atmosphere is relaxed and convivial with an air of excitment and expectation.You can also pre-order other drinks in advance or onboard and there is a boutique onboard to buy momentos of your trip for yourself or friends and family.

For many people once just isnt enough as it's been such an enjoyable experience so you then have the option of travelling further afield and taking a weekend in the UK or going abroad and seeing Europe and Asia onboard the Orient Express.

The Northern Belle carriages of the Orient-Express provide the ultimate in stylish and enjoyable day excursions and short breaks from major stations throughout the UK.

Lavishly furnished with specially commissioned fabrics, intricate marquetry and glistening brass, every exquisite detail sets the scene for your dalliance with the romance of travel. The Northern Belle train entered service in 2000 as a sister to the highly successful British Pullman train of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

Ever since George Mortimer Pullman’s first luxury train was conceived in 1864, people have been captivated by the elegance and sense of occasion that surrounds such decadent travel.

Whilst the Pullman Palace Car Company brought the romance of luxury rail travel to Britain, Georges Nagelmackers founded the luxury sleeping car service which was destined to become legendary, spanning the rail networks across Europe.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is synonymous with sophistication and splendid comfort. Restoration of the carriages by celebrated interior designers such as Rene Laliqué ensures that the decadence of the Orient-Express experience is unsurpassed. It’s re-launch in 1982 marked the re-emergence of a new age in elegant rail travel.

Introduced to provide the ultimate in stylish and enjoyable day excursions and short breaks throughout the North of Britain, the Northern Belle combines classic craftsmanship and contemporary engineering and is a reflection of the affluent 'Belle' trains of the 1930’s. Each of the six dining carriages is named after a great British castle or stately home.

Interior designs, created by James Park Associates, reflect the character of the stately home or castle that they are named after. Marquetry, fabrics and brassware have been specifically commissioned from British craftsmen.
