PARIS - Sightseeing Highlights

TODAY
Paris is one of the most fascinating cities in Europe. Known as the ‘City of Lights’, the beauty of Paris is magical. Its architectural and artistic heritage combines to make any visit an unforgettable experience.

Paris is a visitor’s paradise, who can marvel at its exquisite beauty, savour its exceptional cuisine and indulge in its world-famous shopping. The sheer magnificence of Paris never fails to surpass all expectations. Paris is small: no corner in Paris is farther than 6 miles from the front of the Notre Dame thus making Paris a very practical city for visitors, with many of the major points of interest and world-famous landmarks being within walking distance of one another.

The River Seine flows through Paris, dividing the city both geographically and culturally.

The Left Bank
The Latin Quarter is so named because it is the historic site of education and learning, which was imparted in Latin till as recently as 1798. La Sorbonne, Paris’ most ancient university and the hub of Parisian student life is the highlight of this area. It is also on the Left Bank that you find the Eiffel Tower, the most prominent landmark in Paris and famous throughout the world, dominates the skyline, and provides fabulous views of the city.

The Right bank
This is where some of the most famous Paris landmarks are including the Champs Élysées linking the l’Arc de Triomphe to La Place de la Concorde, a beautiful square where several important historical events, including the execution of Louis XVI, have taken place. This leads to the Jardin de Tuileries, which linked Place de la Concorde to the Royal Residence before it was moved to Versailles under Louis XIV.  The Royal Residence has since become one of the most famous museums in the world - The Louvre. Situated on Ile de la Cite is the Cathédrale de Notre Dame, with its imposing gargoyles.

Don’t miss the Montmartre district; it is well loved for its old world charm – steep winding streets, ivy-covered cottages and cafes, leading to Sacre Coeur and from here you have amazing views over the city of Paris.

Knowing where to begin is probably the biggest problem in Paris, but whatever you are searching, whether it is culture, sightseeing, shopping or people watching you will not be disappointed.
