Particular highlights are Tarragona – Roman Spain’s provincal capital – where the sites and ruins of the UNESCO-listed Archaeological Ensemble of Tárraco await you; and Cartagena, another fine city famed for its Roman treasures. Joining a tour with one of the archaeologists involved in excavating the site Cartagena’s famous amphitheatre will make for an insightful experience. There are impressive examples of Roman theatres to admire in Cádiz and Malaga too, while the Tower of Hercules lighthouse is a must-visit in La Coruna. During time in Cádiz, you can also visit Italica – birthplace of Trajan and Hadrian – and from Malaga, tour to Cordoba to see its magnificent Roman temple.
