Join David Hurrion on this Summer Baltics Gardeners’ cruise calling into Copenhagen, the ‘royal’ city of Denmark, Tallinn whose walled old town is dominated by the fairy-tale presence of Toompea Castle, the jewel in the Baltic crown, St Petersburg, vibrant Helsinki, rich in churches and museums and Stockholm, a charming city built on 14 islands.

Day 1 – London Tilbury 

Join Columbus in London Tilbury. Settle in and meet your host before enjoying dinner and your evening entertainment. 

Day 2 – Rotterdam, Netherlands 

A city of modern architecture and delightful culture. This afternoon we will spend a couple of hours at the Trompenburg Botanical Garden which David visited this year. A beautifully designed botanic garden boasting a large collection of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs and tubers. You will enjoy a panoramic tour before arriving at the garden for your guided tour.  Plus, there may be time in the morning for you to take  an optional tour to Delft & The Hague or the UNESCO World Heritage site Kinderdijk.  Screen Shot 2019-10-18 at 11.57.13.png

 

Day 3 - At Sea

You’ll be invited to join David for his illustrated talk today including his tips from a lifetime of gardening and a sneak preview of his own garden.  Plus plenty of time for questions too! 

 

Day 4 – Copenhagen, Denmark

Beautiful parks and gardens, grand castles, grace the city that is laced with a labyrinth of winding canals. And the atmospheric waterfront area is a popular meeting place along with the world’s oldest entertainment park Tivoli Gardens.  Today we journey through the very best Danish countryside towards the town of Hillerødto visit the most charming fairytale castle, Frederiksborg Castle and its Baroque Garden and English-style romantic Garden.  Enjoy a guided tour.

 

Day 5 – Warnemunde, Germany

Situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea, this delightful seaside town and one of Germany’s most popular holiday resorts and busiest cruise ports will be your gateway to historic Rostock and vibrant Berlin with itsmost famous landmark, the Brandenburg Gate.The Botanical Garden at Rostock may be worth a visit!

 

Day 6 – At Sea

Today you will be invited to join David for his ‘Masterclass’. Look forward to a feast of creative ideas!

The historic Old Town is a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets and alleyways, turrets and spires.  Wrapped within the original medieval wall, the Castle, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Town Hall Square and Gothic Town Hall survive along with the aura of the 14thand 15thcenturies.

 

Day 8 – St Petersburg, Russia

The jewel in the Baltic’s crown and Russia's most European city, elegant St. Petersburg is home to Baroque palaces, wide elegant streets, ornate bridges and broad curving canals. The main street, Nevsky Prospekt is lined with cafés, bars and restaurants mixed in with upmarket hotels and sumptuous shops.  The magnificent Hermitage and its priceless treasures of art, the grandeur of Catherine’s Palace at Pushkin and gilded fountains in the gardens of Peterhof, illustrate the lavish lifestyle of Russia’s former ruling elite.  The birthplace of Russian ballet, St Petersburg is the perfect place to take in the performing arts.

 

Day 9 -  St Petersburg, Russia

A full programme of tours will be available to you which you will be able to book before your cruise.  With two full days in St Petersburg, you will be spoilt for choice!  Our group visit will take you to Peterhof Gardens where with your host and specialist guide from the Palace, you’ll marvel at ornate fountains and parks, and the most magnificent of all the Russian Tsars’ summer residences. Conceived by peter the Great to rival Versailles,  its gardens have over 150 fountains including the Grand Cascade.

Known as ‘ The White City of the North’ this beautiful seaside city spread out over a large network of pretty islands is compact and easy to navigate on foot and those who take the time to explore the city are rewarded with some stunning views and a host of interesting attractions and places of interest to visit.

 

Day 11 – Stockholm

Dating back to the 13th century, the island is surrounded by water and offers beautiful waterfront views. The charming Old Town is a maze of medieval alleys and tiny lanes lined with 16thcentury buildings. A delightful mix of parkland and forest, Royal Djurgarden is Stockholm’s city park.

 

Day 12 – At Sea

Cruising towards Denmark and time to indulge in the full programme of entertainment the ship has to offer. Plus a gardeners’ get-together is scheduled with question time and quiz with prizes!

 

Day 13 – Aarhus, Denmark

In the narrow, cobblestone streets of the historical Latin Quarter, you will find a cosy atmosphere and a mix of boutique shops, designer stores and artware shops giving the perfect ad most charming setting for shopping. This morning we visit Aarhus’s Botanical Garden sculpted into the hillside with gardens all around complete with lakes, streams, greenhouses, alpine beds, bog gardens, rose garden, and Danish Plant Society.

Day 14 – At Sea

Your last cruising day to enjoy all that Columbus has to offer.  Plus join your host for drinks and a farewell get-together. 

 

Day 15 - London Tilbury 

Arrive early morning.  Time for breakfast and farewells before continuing your journey home.
